Torex ‘liberates Point of Sale’: Launches browser based POS
21 November 2011
Mobile POS provides flexibility to small and large operators
Torex, the leading global provider of innovative technology to
the retail, hospitality and convenience and fuel markets, today
launches kachng!, a cloud-based HTML5 Point of Sale (POS) which
will work via a browser on any tablet device, smartphone and the
traditional POS.
The combination of the HTML5 POS with the portability and low cost
of tablet computing means kachng! is well-suited to retailers,
restaurants, bars and franchises looking for a flexible POS.
It can be scaled quickly in line with demand and also fits into
their existing IS systems and POS framework.
As a cloud-based service, it is easily accessible, does not
require a big investment in hardware and can be set up in a matter
of minutes. This means it is also suited to the Small to
Medium Enterprises (SMEs) who do not want or need to invest in a
'full service' traditional POS set up and who can be more agile in
their business development. Ideal for pop-up shops, it also
suits large retailers to reduce queues and who wish to reorganise
the store without having to worry about re-laying cables.
Larger scale operators can also benefit from its easy scalability
when looking to expand existing outlets or move into new
geographies.
Services available through kachng! include trading sessions, full
cash management including: float control, petty cash, cash
settlements, statements of the day's trading and tender report; the
sales features include: returns, price modifications, voids,
suspend and recall actions, and other services such as electronic
audit, enterprise dashboard, KPIs and a promotions engine.
The range of kachng! services can be accessed via broadband and/ or
3G networks, and it is easy to set up a menu of products, with
reporting and configurable on/off functionality. Customer
support will take place online, via live chat or forum.
A management dashboard provides simple, easy to understand
performance statistics across single or multiple restaurant or shop
sites. For more information see www.kachng.com.
kachng!, with its focus around the POS, is Torex's first
implementation of an HTML5 based application. There are a
number of potential additions to the product around social media
and enterprise reporting.
Paul Broome, Chief Technology Officer, Torex, commented,
"The rise in mobile technology brings enormous business benefits
to retailers and hospitality companies, and kachng! is Torex's
answer to the need for flexibility, providing the depth of the
traditional POS in the lightest way possible. It's agnostic
to the backend and can tie in to existing systems from an
infrastructure perspective but is also a potential 'queue-busting'
device, providing better customer service on the shop floor.
"As IT becomes more consumer friendly, we need to ensure that
technology is simple and easy to use, so we decided to 'free the
POS' and make it mobile, independent and user-friendly. That's what
kachng! offers our customers and we hope all retailers, pubs,
restaurants or bars, whether start-ups or established, can reap the
benefits of deploying it."
Steve Rowley, Chief Executive Officer, Torex, added,
"As an innovative market leader, Torex develops the latest
emerging technologies to bring clear business benefits to our
customers. kachng! is the most recent in a series of technology
developments from Torex which will help our customers stay
ahead."
John Burke, user of kachng! and owner of jewellery shop
Bling-n-Things, said,
"kachng! has really worked for us - it's been simple to set up and
use. Easy access to the back office information, whenever and
wherever we are, is particularly useful, and means we can see
customer buying trends early and clearly. We can capture
customer information in a way which wasn't possible before,
allowing us to keep in contact, and in general the customers think
it looks great, giving us a very professional air. We love
it."
The core elements of kachng! are based on a product with 14 years
of development and investment behind it, and will link into all
existing Torex products, including Retail J, MiRetail Hub,
Caterwide, ABS, InnTouch, Iridium, Prism, Oscar and Lucas.
kachng! is in operation with a number of customers in the UK market
place.
